Important City Council Meeting

The city council will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 12th at 3pm to discuss the appeal of an MPC ruling against the opening of a temporary shelter for runaway teenagers at 513 Jordan. The HRA OPPOSES the appeal of this case (#C-72-09) because we believe that the Highland neighborhood is currently saturated with social services facilities and that adding more of these facilities would be counterproductive to our revitalization efforts. Anyone one who can, please attend this meeting to show your support. The meeting will be held on the 1st floor of the Government Plaza at 505 Travis St. in downtown Shreveport.

HRA is pleased that the zoning request for Jan. 12 council was withdrawn by the applicant and removed from consideration. We feel it is not good social services practice to saturate a single street or area with high need individuals. The location in question already has about 9 group facilities, with a total population of about 100 persons in need of intensive services.
